Scripture Union Daily Guide 9th February 2025 Outline:

It is certain that both Aaron and Miriam had received a portion of the prophetic spirit (see Exodus 4:15;15:20) and therefore they thought they might have a share in the government. Maybe, being older too, they considered themselves relatively unrecognised. The love of power is natural to the human mind and in many instances, men will sacrifice even honour, pleasure, and profit to the lust for power.

Notice the testimony about Moses’ character in Numbers 12:3. And to confirm that, he seemed not to have put up any defence for himself. A Yoruba song counsels: “Leave your battle to God to fight and just be still and watch” (see Exodus 14:14). God suddenly appeared on the scene to defend His servant showing God’s displeasure with His servant’s accusers (Numbers 12:4-8). He chastised Aaron and Miriam for speaking against His servant.

Miriam, and not Aaron, suffered possibly because she was the principal offender (Numbers 12:10).
What do Aaron’s repentance and Moses’ plea teach about how God wants us to approach Him (Numbers 12:11–13)? However, sin has consequences. Miriam had to remain in isolation for seven days, causing the whole assembly to delay their journey. Our transgressions affect other people as well. We must be careful how we conduct ourselves among God’s people.

Rebellion against Moses was a rebellion against God, therefore we should handle God’s servants with respect (Psalm 105:15). God’s servants should respect themselves too.
